Large, powerful, alert, with much substance and heavy bone. The broad head, forming a blunt triangle, with deep muzzle, small eyes and erect ears carried forward in line with back of neck, is characteristic of the breed. The large, curled tail, balancing the broad head, is also characteristic of the breed.

The Akita originates in Japan where she is described as "Tender in heart and strong in strength." The Akita is loyal to family and friends and is unusually tolerant and patient with children, but is reserved and aloof with strangers. A fenced yard is a must for Akita owners. Her double coat is thick and warm and is shed twice a year.
Temperament
Alert and responsive, dignified and courageous. Aggressive toward other dogs.
Did You Know?
The Akita is one of seven breeds designated as a national monument in her native country of Japan. In July 1931, the government of Japan designated the Akita breed as a national monument and as one of Japan's national treasures. The Akita is a powerfully built dog originally developed to hunt bears in Japan. The Japanese now use the Akita as a guard dog and police dog. The Akita Club of America was founded in 1956. In Japan they are affectionately regarded as loyal companions and pets, protectors of the home and a symbol of good health. When a child is born, the proud family will usually receive a small statue of an Akita signifying health, happiness and a long life. If a person is ill, friends will send a small statue of an Akita to express their wish for a speedy recovery. The renowned Helen Keller is credited with bringing the first Akitas into the United States.

Well sit back Relax, get comfortable and grab a brew
Sasha unlike her assumed nature, is very docile, loving and warm. She loves everyone. Children, people and animals. She greets them all with a wag of her tail and a paw for a shake. If ignored she may persist with another paw request or lick of your hand.
Sasha loves to go for car rides and a burger from the drive thru (She prefers plain burgers from Checkers with water) before going to the park to exercise.
At home she is very laid back, way laid back. If someone rings the door bell she doesn't run to the door, in fact she may raise her head look at you as though to say, "well aren't you going to get it?". But she won't bark or make a fuss.
She just turned 2 years old, I don't think she knows its her nature to be a guard dog nor does she know the meaning of being aggressive. Overall she is just a lovable, very independent dog.
True to her nature she is very dignified, when aggressive dogs have come her way during walks. She has just sat down calmly and looked at them with out uttering a sound much like to say," Is there a problem here?" In most instances. the offending party stops barking and walks away. She also does not fetch or play much with toys. She has a number of them but she does not bother with them, though she has been seen to use a big rope tug with knots at both ends as a head rest when sleeping.
She is happiest when going out for walks and car rides. She enjoys going to the Palm Beach Post Office where Betty always has some affectionate hellos for her. She also loves going to Pet smart where she gets a treat and many praises from staff and clients. There is no doubt she is a very sociable young lady.
